Pat’s Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso is sourced from just three rows in the southeast corner of the Chalmers vineyard on the ultra-red soils common to the area. The rows were planted in 2015 with an east-west orientation, which moderates the impact of the midday sun. All the fruit was picked on 16^th March, then destemmed and fermented in stainless steel. The wine was pressed after three weeks and matured for several months in stainless steel, followed by a few months in a sandstone jar. The cooler conditions in 2022 have resulted in a lighter, easier-drinking style than in previous years, with finer tannins and slightly lower alcohol. “The wine is savoury, mineral and quite a light expression of Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso,” says Pat.
